Designer Jay Novak combines the time-tested method of mortise-and-tenon craftsmanship with the strength of 26 layers of hardwood ply to craft his modern, deceptively simple Tenon Tables (2005), which come in three sizes. Inspired by his vintage wood kayak, Novak tapped the resilience, stability and omni-directional strength of the plywood to make a seamless connection between the legs and tabletop. The patent-pending joinery requires just four screws to hold each leg in place, without glue or mechanical fasteners, and yet, this rock solid connection absorbs the forces imposed upon the table. Made in U.S.A.

Legs are incredibly stable due to patent-pending mortise-and-tenon joint construction.
Stained and sprayed with a low-VOC sheen lacquer for a natural wood look.

In 1944, Niels Otto Møller began his cabinetry company, where old craft traditions, like the hand-woven seat on the Model 55 Armchair (1951), are still used today. Danish cord seats are known for their durability easily withstanding decades of frequent use and the strength of this material made it a smart substitute for tires when rubber was in short supply during WWII. What's amazing about that history is that Danish cord is made of tightly twisted paper. Being a natural material, Danish cord is very pleasant to sit on and the way that it's woven provides lasting comfort. Thirty years after he founded his company, Niels Otto Møller began exporting his chairs to Japan, which remains one of its biggest markets due to the simplicity and quality of the design and craftsmanship. Møllers is still a small family-owned business and is now managaged by Niels' son, Jørgen Henrik Møller. These chairs are authentic, fully licensed products of J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik. Made in Denmark.

The classic Nelson swag leg table has a clean, simple look that's a fresh today as when George Nelson designed it 50 years ago. The rectangular table has solid walnut stretcher with either a walnut veneer top or white laminate top with a walnut edge. The chromed legs feature adjustable glides. George Nelson began with the legs, insisting that they be made of metal, machine formed, and prefinished. And beautiful. He wanted that graceful curve. He also wanted them to be easy for the consumer to assemble, so the desk and tables could be shipped knocked down to save on costs. This series of furniture is named for the process that creates the distinctive legs. George Nelson started with this idea: "Wouldn't it be beautiful to have some kind of sculptured leg on a piece of furniture?" How could that be done without wood and hand-carving tools? Using pressure to taper and curve a metal tube--the process called swaging--proved to be the best way to produce the legs. Conceived for lounges and waiting rooms, the larger version, Tulip Sixtysix, swivels and features a polished brushed aluminum disc base. The smaller version, Tulip Sixty, with dimensions more closely resembling those of a chair, is perfect as an armchair for meeting and dining rooms, for guests or hotel rooms. The frame rests on two kinds of bases: with four spokes or die-cast aluminum, or a tripod of polished chromed steel wire. In September 1995, Jeffrey Bernett founded Studio B as a vehicle to conceive and promote projects in a wide range of design disciplines.
