Knoll Platner Dining Table

If you combined the work of I.M. Pei and Eero Saarinen, the result might very well look like the Platner Collection (1962). Warren Platner worked with both of the industrial and organic design giants before turning his attention to steel wire furniture, for which he devised the structure and production method. Requiring as many as 1,000 welds and crafted out of wire and space, the Dining Table demonstrates Platner's belief that there is room in modernism "for the kind of decorative, gentle, graceful design that appeared in a period style like Louis XV." Constructed of metal components that are finished in bright nickel with a clear lacquer protective coating, the table features a clear plastic extrusion ring surrounding the base to protect floors and ensure a level tabletop. The tabletop is made of .4" thick tempered glass. The Platner Collection is Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified for low-emitting products. Manufactured by Knoll® according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer. Made in Italy.

Knoll WombTM Chair in Child Size

When Florence Knoll challenged architect and designer Eero Saarinen to create a chair that she could curl up in, she had found an apt candidate for the task. The Womb Chair's (1946) enveloping form continues to be one of the most iconic and recognized representations of mid-century Scandinavian organic modernism. By applying foam molded over a fiberglass shell, Saarinen created a single-piece form that perfectly facilitates a relaxed sitting posture and a sublime feeling of security. The steel rod base is chrome plated and polished to a mirror finish (a matte black finish is available for the adult-size Chair and Ottoman). Any fabric or leather can be special ordered. Manufactured by Knoll according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer. Made in U.S.A.

Knoll Bertoia Collection in Child Size

With his iconic seating collection, Harry Bertoia transformed industrial wire rods into a new furniture form. The events that made this work possible began a decade earlier at Cranbrook Academy of Art when Bertoia met Florence Knoll Bassett (then Florence Schust).
Knoll Albini Desk

Italian designer Franco Albini, considered to be among the most important Neo-Rationalist designers, also happened to be the first European to be commissioned by Knoll. Much of his furniture, including the lightly scaled Albini Desk (1938), was designed to make use of the most inexpensive raw materials that were available during World War II, when other materials were scarce. Using just steel, glass and wood, his desk demonstrates a striking clarity and balance, unencumbered by extraneous ornamentation. When used as a freestanding piece, its simple design is appealing from every angle even the drawer pedestal is open in the back for additional storage. Manufactured by Knoll according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer. Made in U.S.A.

The two-drawer pedestal appears to float, though it is actually securely attached to the cross-legs of the desk.

Compact footprint makes the Albini Desk ideal for small spaces like the home office.

Knoll Bertoia AsymmetricTM Chaise with Full Cover

The Bertoia Asymmetric Chaise remained a prototypical form for 50 years, but in 2005 Knoll brought this masterpiece of mid-century experimental design into production.

Knoll Risom Arm Lounge Chair

Originally constructed of a birch frame and surplus parachute straps, Jens Risom's iconic Lounge Chair (1943) made the best of the few materials available during WWII. Born in Copenhagen in 1916 and emigrated to the U.S. in 1939, Jens Risom made Danish modernism an important part of U.S. design. In 1941, he joined forces with fellow Danish émigré Hans Knoll, who soon launched his famous company with 20 pieces of furniture, 15 of which were designed by Risom. Many of these items, including the Risom Lounge Chair, are still produced by Knoll® today. After returning from WWII service, he started Jens Risom Design, Inc., where he designed, manufactured and sold furniture. Even today, Risom continues to create work that is simple, practical and beautiful. Manufactured by Knoll® according to the original specifications of the designer. Made in U.S.A.

"If you look at the chairs, they are mainly made of air, like sculpture," said Bertoia. "Space passes through them." The white barstools and regular vinyl seat pads (black, carrot and white) can be used outdoors with proper care and limited exposure to the elements. Manufactured by Knoll® according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer. Barstool made in Italy, seat pads made in U.S.A.

Knoll Bertoia Counter Stool with Seat Pad

With his iconic seating collection, Harry Bertoia transformed industrial wire rods into a new furniture form. The events that made this work possible began a decade earlier at Cranbrook Academy of Art when Bertoia met Florence Knoll Bassett (then Florence Schust). Years later, the Italian-born designer was invited to work for Florence and her husband Hans Knoll. The terms were favorable to the artist and Bertoia was given the freedom to work on whatever suited him, without being held to a strict design agenda. The result of this arrangement was the Bertoia Seating Collection (1952). Featuring a delicate filigreed appearance that's supremely strong, these airy seats are sculpted out of steel rods. In his art, Bertoia experimented with open forms and metal work, and these chairs were an extension of that work. "If you look at the chairs, they are mainly made of air, like sculpture," said Bertoia. "Space passes through them."
Knoll CopelandTM Task Light

The Copeland Task Light (2005) embodies a mid-century form, but with the quality of a classic Knoll® product all at a startling price point. Stephan Copeland designed his task lamp, available in two sizes, with a pioneering spring mechanism that provides smooth and easy movement from the circular joints. The shade rotates 360 degrees to offer either a directed or diffuse pool of light. The weighted base has a circular cut-out that echoes not only the arm's joints, but the iconic work of mid-century designers like Arne Jacobsen. The light's ease of use is not an accident: “What excites me is making the interaction between people and products more fluid,” says Copeland about his design process. The Copeland Task Light, which is made with 75% recycled materials, received the Best of NeoCon Silver Award in 2005. Bulb (included): compact florescent (can also use incandescent).

Knoll Florence Knoll Four-Position Credenza

Florence Knoll Bassett almost single-handedly defined the look of modern corporate interiors in the 1950s and '60s, as founder and director of the Knoll Planning Unit, the space-planning arm of Knoll® Associates. She looked at furniture design as just one aspect of her "total design approach to interiors. "I did it because I needed a piece of furniture for a job and it wasn't there, so I designed it," she said. She wasn't the only one who needed the Florence Knoll Credenza (1961), though, as it has been in constant production since its introduction. The simple, refined design has a white Arabescato top (the same marble used on the Saarinen Pedestal Table) and ebonized oak wood veneers, and is appropriate for a dining room, living room or office space. Made in Italy.

Knoll Saarinen Side Table

In a 1956 cover story in Time magazine, Eero Saarinen said he was designing a collection to "clear up the slum of legs in the U.S. home." Later that year, he completed his Pedestal Table and TulipTM Chair Collection (1956) and obliterated the "slum" by creating a cast aluminum base inspired by a drop of high-viscosity liquid. This table is manufactured by Knoll® according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer. Made in Italy.

Pedestal Tables come in a variety of table top materials (veneer, marble and laminate) and base colors (black, white and platinum).

The base has an abrasion-resistant Rilsan® finish.

Each piece is stamped with the KnollStudio logo and Eero Saarinen's signature.

Due to size, weight and fragility, the Marble Tables must ship with our White Glove delivery service. For all other tables, please review our shipping options . During checkout you will select the option that best fits your needs.
